Fundraising Is Not A Four-Letter Word

You see, fundraising is sort of like sales- some people will stop at nothing to avoid being percieved as a salesperson. We don’t have salespeople in the non-profit sector- we have fundraisers. We are the necessary evil, the other department, the non-program staff, overhead, I have heard them all.

Distinctively Fundraising

While I wouldn’t deny that some are equally as qualified to address fundraising matters as they are anything else, I think it is important to distinquish between fundraising and other expertise. It is especially important for a non-profit organization with limited resources to know the difference if they expect positive fundraising results.

Without having ever experienced poverty ourselves, many of us fail to understand how the effects of being without faith, without a family, or without an education are compounded by poverty.

I prefer to see people begin giving just as I began getting on the treadmill and just like the swimmers practicing in the pool- with the determination to be consistent regardless of our circumstances and always striving towards getting a little better.
